The DMX Gateway (DG) connects the Hausmate system to DMX dimmer units, placed around the house. DMX is a digital electronics communication used by Hausmate to control lighting circuits. The gateway software converts messages from the Host computer into valid DMX commands and sends them to the DMX dimmer units units around the property.

Hardware

The DMX Gateway is powered via the Ethernet connection from PoE Network switch. It is often mounted in the rack. The concept of DMX Gateway is based on the Zone Gateway (ZG) - they have the same main PCB, the same processor unit -  Arduino clone Freetronics Ethermega and the same firmware. It is connected to the DMX dimmer unit through an RJ45 terminated cable.

Sizes:  allow minimum space of 225 x 125 x 35mm (WxHxD) for the unit and cable trunking extra. 10 cables with RJ45s enter along bottom long edge, 1 cable along right-hand short edge.

Resetting a DMX Gateway (DG)

The DG unit is powered via its Ethernet connection to the network switch. It is normally plugged into the first PoE (Power over Ethernet) port on the switch and other units (e.g. CCTV cameras, WAP - Wireless Access Points etc.) are plugged in after this. The easiest way to reset a DG is to unplug its ethernet connection for a couple of seconds and then reconnect. It takes about 30 seconds to power up and start working again. It does not matter which end is un-plugged - often easier to do at the network switch.
